Autism Street: Preface: Why be skeptical?

I wish I had written this, but it summs up perfectly what I think about why we should think critically using the scientific method at all times in regards to matters of disease.

I trust the sciences: astronomy, biology, chemistry, genetics, mathematics (especially statistics), and medicine, not because of their individual contributions, because of their methodology. The scientific method is honest, because it does not make assertions. It leads to conclusions only by putting available evidence to the test, and then being subject to critical review. It is the best tool we have.
